The Most Profitable Websites?
How do you make the most profitable websites?
Actually, there are several key ways to make more money with
a site. They include selling something with a higher profit margin,
getting better conversions, and getting more traffic. Let's take
a quick look at each of the three.
How do you find high-profit products
to sell?
Given the same number of sales or clicks,
you obviously make more money if your share is $500 per sale
instead of $5, or $5 per click instead of five cents. So if you
want to maximize profits (not my only goal - I want to like what
I do too), you should look for these high-end things to sell.
The most common are the expensive internet seminar products that
sell for $1,000 or more and pay out half or more to you as a
commission.
Real estate courses are another possibility.
You might also find some general self improvement products, such
as complete courses or week-long seminars that you can promote.
If you don't already have a website, you then build one based
on one or more great products that make you big commissions.
Another alternative is to sell something
yourself, rather than as an affiliate. You might put together
your own expensive course on something. You also could sell diamond
rings or other jewelry.
Finally, if you're business model is based
on sites that just get revenue from clicks, you need to optimize
it for the highest value visitors. To do this, open an advertising
account with one of the big pay-per-click providers (Google,
Yahoo, MSN). You don;t need to do any advertising, but you may
want to if the numbers work. The point is to see which keyword
phrases costs the most for the top spot. Make pages optimized
for those and any closely related keywords.
How do you get better conversions?
You have a great offer, but only one out
of every thousand visitors is buying. That's a problem. How do
you get it to a more reasonable 2% conversion rate, meaning 2
out of every 100 visitors eventually buys?
Testing various sales pages is a start.
Keep good records and run at least a thousand or more visitors
to each one for accuracy in tracking results. There are some
good resources available online to help you with writing sales
copy. Applying a few tips from one that I bought years ago quadrupled
the number of daily sign-ups for one of my newsletters.

My most profitable websites got that way from writing simple
articles to promote them.
You can do the same - I'll show you exactly how.

Newsletters, free courses and other mailing
lists are another way to boost conversions. I know, for example,
that visitors who subscribe to my "Secrets Course"
are six times as likely to buy the "Secrets Course"
as those who don't. Sometimes they buy two months later, after
twenty or more mailings. A list is almost always a good idea
for high-dollar items.
Finally, if you have a great product but
can't make the sales, you may have to consider getting help.
At elance.com and similar sites you can post your requirements
and get bids. I understand that it can be several thousand dollars
to get a good sale's page written for you, or at least a few
hundred from a less experienced writer.
How do you get more traffic?
Even low-visitor-value sites can be some
of the most profitable websites if they have enough traffic.
For example, I have one site that provides enough revenue for
my wife and I to live on despite making only a few cents per
visitor. It just has a lot of people coming to it every day.
Of course, if you have a great product
that converts well and a lot of traffic... You can get rich.
I would love to make a dollar per-visitor on average from each
of the hundreds of thousands of people that visit our sites every
month. Obviously traffic-building is one of my strengths in this
business. For more on how I do it, see my ebook You Can
